NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Substitute Darwin Nunez scored two late goals, including a winner in the third minute of stoppage time, as Liverpool recovered to beat Newcastle 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday despite playing more than an hour with 10 men after Virgil van Dijk’s sending-off.Newcastle took the lead in the 25th minute through Anthony Gordon and, when Van Dijk was shown a straight red card three minutes later, it looked to be a damage-limitation exercise for Liverpool. However, Uruguay striker Nunez led an unlikely rally from Liverpool, equalizing in the 85th minute and then scoring an almost-replica finish in added-on time at St. James’ Park to earn a second straight victory and stay unbeaten.“It was something special out there today,” said Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made a mistake for Gordon’s goal and played almost the whole match under pressure after a sixth-minute yellow card.“We had to do it the hard way. NEW YORK (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz wishes he could go a little more unnoticed as he tries to move around the home of the U.S. Open. That’s not possible, of course. New York is the last place to find quiet when you’re the star of the show, and even at just 20 years old, it appears the Spaniard is already that in tennis. He may not be the favorite of the oddsmakers despite being the defending champion — Novak Djokovic is back, after all — but he certainly seems to be a popular choice among fans. They will have to wait one more day to watch him. Alcaraz isn’t on the schedule Monday for the first day of play, when top-ranked Iga Swiatek opens her title defense in the afternoon and both 19-year-old Coco Gauff and Djokovic play at night.Alcaraz is scheduled to play Dominik Koepfer on Tuesday night, providing an extra day to set aside the distractions and hype that were already starting even before he won the title last year and have snowballed since.“Well, my life changed a lot, a lot,” Alcaraz ...

I’m really determined to get one. It’s the last thing on my checklist.”McLaughlin completed his qualifying laps in 49.1936 seconds. Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden will start in the top position after completing his qualifying laps in 49.3448 seconds.McLaughlin can finish the season no higher than second place in the IndyCar driver standings, but Newgarden remains mathematically alive sitting four points behind of Scott Dixon and trailing leader Alex Palou by 105 points heading into the third-to-last race of the season.“I think there’...
