BOSTON (AP) — Patriotic mobs and harbor tea-dumping returned to Boston on Saturday as the city marked the 250th anniversary of the revolutionary protest that preceded America’s independence. The commemoration of the Boston Tea Party included scheduled reenactments of the throwing of tea leaves into the city’s harbor and community meetings that preceded the defiant act on Dec. 16, 1773. City officials were expecting thousands of visitors for the celebration.Tea for the reenactment was being supplied by the East India Co., the same British company that was at the center of the raucous dispute.Protesting “taxation without representation,” members of the Sons of Liberty and others boarded East India Co. ships and dumped their valuable haul — some 92,000 pounds of tea worth nearly $2 million today — into the murky waters of Boston Harbor. The British would respond with military rule and other sanctions on Massachusetts, stoking American opposition to colonial rule. The Tea Party...Premier League player Lockyer ‘responsive’ after suffering cardiac arrest on field

But do you know where the tradition started?Historians agree that gingerbread houses originated in Germany. But to really get to the root of the matter, you'll have to go back about 5,000 years to China ,when the ginger root was discovered. According to Food Network, the ginger root was first used for medicinal purposes, and it still is today. What is the Festivus, the holiday ‘for the rest of us’? Ginger eventually found its way to Europe (some believe it was used in Ancient Greece too), and into Germany, where the house-making started. In the 16th century, Germans began making cookie-walled houses around the same time "Hansel and Gretel" was published, PBS said. The story, written by the Brothers Grimm, concerned two young children get lost in a forest before finding a witch with a house made of gingerbread. It is still unclear whether th...Dylan Disu makes debut for No. 19 Texas in 96-85 win over LSU

Meteorologists predict a “brown” Christmas this year with no snow falling in the foreseeable future — or at least the next 10 days.In line with what is to be expected from an El Niño year, the area is seeing warmer temperatures and less precipitation than normal, according to Joe Calderone, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Twin Cities office. And that means no snow on Christmas.“That’s the way we’re trending,” he said, noting that while temperatures on Christmas and the days surrounding it won’t be as high as the 50s, it will still be higher than normal.Toward the end of next week and into the weekend, temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid-40s, he said. The normal this time of year would be highs in the upper 20s and low 30s, he said. This pattern will continue through Christmas week, he said. The next chance of precipitation is on Dec. 22 and that’s only a 20-30 percent chance, he said.
