In an academic sense, chemistry is the scientific study of the properties and behavior of matter. When it comes to the gridiron, a different kind of chemistry is something Lakeville North found Friday. Some confidence, too.The Lakeville North offense centers around running between the tackles and its stout offensive line in a mano-a-mano battle against an opponent’s defensive front. Not only was it successful, but the Panthers defense largely held the Eagan running game in check.Sawyer Wilkie ran for 155 yards and two scores, and the Panthers won 28-6 at Eagan, a game called about 30 minutes into a weather delay after three quarters due to lightning in the area. Lakeville North was about to cash in from the Eagan 1 when play was halted.“Lately we‘ve gotten into ruts where we lose our momentum, we get it back and we lose it again,” Wilkie said. “Today it seemed everything was flowing really nice all game. … Our offensive line was phenomenal; the holes were great.”Ranked fourth in Clas...Twins’ Joe Ryan gives up six runs in final start before postseason

Ryan, in the hitter’s haven known as Coors Field, gave up six runs on Friday in the Twins’ 7-6 win over the Colorado Rockies in his final start of the regular season. The starter was bitten by the longball, giving up three of them, including a three-run blast, in his five-inning outing. He gave up eight hits and did not throw a 1-2-3 inning. He finished his start with six strikeouts, falling just shy of 200 on the season. AURORA — Tom Doherty knew what he was doing. There’s only one reason you leave a dynasty — to go and try to start your own.The longtime Cherry Creek defensive coordinator took over the Grandview job three years ago, and led the Wolves to the Class 5A semifinals and quarterfinals the past two seasons. And Doherty’s Wolves, the lone in-state team to beat the four-time defending champion Bruins in 2022, are looking like a title contender again this fall.As evidence of that potential, Grandview outlasted Eaglecrest 39-32 on Friday at Legacy Stadium in a thrilling see-saw game to open Centennial League play. Senior quarterback Liam Szarka, the exact mold of player that Doherty wants to build his program identity around, put the Wolves on his shoulders with five total touchdowns. So, let’s check in with Doherty — how’s he feeling about his decision to leave juggernaut Cherry Creek? Pretty, pretty good.“I like our trajectory,” Doherty sa...Rockies hit three homers but lose, 7-6, to Twins in the ninth inning

A 1-9 skid in early May dropped Padres below .500 — San Diego last had a winning recor...Latest news
